AKRON, OH – The Akron Racers are thrilled to announce that they will be hosting the 2017 NPF Draft Watch Party at the Twisted Olive in Green.  The Racers Draft Party has become an annual event and will be streamed live on NPF TV.
The Draft Party begins at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 24. The actual NPF Draft will begin at 8 p.m. ET.  Prior to the draft, fans will be able to take part in games, giveaways and have a chance to purchase food and drink from the Twisted Olive’s Pub located on the first floor of the restaurant.  Once the draft begins, settle in and see who the Racers select with their stock of eight draft picks in the five round, 26 player draft.  Fans interested in attending the draft party are asked to RSVP by calling 330-376-8188.
Akron owns each of its own selections in all five rounds, which is the second pick in each of the first two rounds (second overall and seventh overall) and the first pick in each of the last three rounds (11th overall, 16th overall, 21st overall).  The Racers also own the Texas Charge’s third round pick and fifth round picks from the Scrap Yard Dawgs and the USSSA Pride.
Akron gained the 15th overall selection from the Charge in January in exchange for catcher Haley Outon, who had been designated with the franchise tag.  The Racers had previously added the 24th pick from the Pride in exchange for catcher Jessica Garcia in a trade last February. The Racers acquired the 23rd overall selection from the Scrapyard Dawgs in a trade that sent slugger Nerissa Myers to the Dawgs last January.  Garcia retired from the NPF earlier this year, while Outon and Myers are currently slated to play for Charge and the Dawgs, respectively, this season.
A year ago, Akron received a significant immediate impact from an eight-player draft class, led by 2016 NPF Rookie of the Year Sami Fagan (fourth overall), pitcher Jailyn Ford (third overall) and versatile slugger Alex Hugo (10th overall).  Geri Ann Glasco, Sandra Simmons, Hannah Day, Emily Messer and Hannah Perryman rounded out the 2016 draft class.
Make sure you don’t miss a chance to enjoy good food, great company and a fun night of softball with the Akron Racers at the Twisted Olive and see who gets selected to help the Racers make their push for the 2017 Cowles Cup this season.
