RIED, BENNETT SELECTED FOR TOP 25 FINALISTS

AKRON, Ohio – April 12, 2012 - USA softball has announced that Racers’ draftees Lexy Bennett and Jamia Reid (pictured) have been selected among 25 other finalists for the 2012 USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the year.
 
Lexy Bennett was the first pick in the March National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) draft and is playing for the University of Texas. Bennett has had a great year at shortstop for the Longhorns and has a batting average of .414, which leads the team. Bennett also leads the team in hits, RBIs and on base percentage. Bennett has come through for the Longhorns when they have needed her.
 
Jamia Reid was the final pick for the Akron Racers in the NPF draft. Reid plays for the California Golden Bears and is their everyday leadoff hitter. Reid leads the team with a .435 batting average. Reid leads the team with 34 bases this season and for her career she has 160.
 
Opening Night for the 2012 season at Firestone Stadium is on Thursday, June 7 at 7:05 p.m. The Racers will play an exhibition game June 4 vs. the Northeast Ohio College All-stars at 7:05 pm.
