Draftee Update Week 11

The Akron Racers selected six players in the March 7, NPF College Draft. Debuting from the Akron Racers this season, only at www.akronracers.org, is a special feature called “Draftee Update” where we will check in on our six draftees and see how their college seasons are progressing. Let’s take a look . . .
Akron Racers Draft Pick #3, Lexy Bennett, #51, Shortstop, University of Texas
Lexy Bennett and the No. 6 Texas Longhorns (42-10, 16-8 Big 12) ended their regular season with a win and a 42-10 record. The Longhorns played at home against the Baylor Bears, defeating the Bears 3-1. Bennett batted 1-for-3 with a double and struck out once. Bennett has been named to the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 Softball Team, earning first team honors. Bennett becomes a three-time Academic All-Big 12 first team selection. The Longhorns will play host to the NCAA Regional Championships on Friday as they play Northwestern and fellow NPF Draftee Adrianne Monka.
Akron Racers Draft Pick #7, Hillary Bach, #10, Pitcher, Arizona State University
Hillary Bach and the No. 2 Arizona State Sun Devils (46-7, 18-4 Pac-12) were on the road to play fellow Akron Racers draftee Jamia Reid and the No. 1 California Golden Bears. The Sun Devils only won one game out of three. Bach pitched in the second game and struggled as she lost her only game of the season. Bach pitched 4.1 innings, letting up five runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking out five. Bach’s record on the season ends at 19-1. Bach and the Sun Devils host the NCAA Regional as they play Long Island in the first round on Friday.
Akron Racers Draft Pick # 11, Amanda Chidester, #3, third baseman, University of Michigan
Amanda Chidester and the No. 22 Michigan Wolverines (39-15, 18-5 Big Ten) were home against Purdue over the weekend and swept the three game series. Game one was a 2-1 for Michigan. Chidester batted 0-for-4 with a strikeout. Game two was 8-5 win and Chidester hit 0-for-1 with a walk, a RBI and scored a run. In the last game Chidester batted 1-for-2 with a three run home run, scored two runs and stole a base as Michigan won 8-0 in five innings. Michigan ended their season with a 39-15 record. Next weekend they travel to Louisville, Ky. to play Kentucky in the first round of the NCAA Regional.
Akron Racers Draft Pick #14, Alicia Herron, #24, Shortstop, Ohio State University
Alicia Herron and the Ohio State Buckeyes (31-23, 10-13 Big Ten) were away in State College, Pa. to play Penn State for three games. The Buckeyes would win the series 2-1. Game one was a 5-2 win for the Buckeyes as Herron batted 2-for-4 with a two run home run, a double and scored twice. During this game Alicia Herron breaks OSU career runs scored record with 167 following two runs in game one! Game two was a 6-5 loss in eight innings as Herron hit 0-for-0 with four walks and stole two bases. Ohio State would win the final game of the series for a score of 4-1 as Herron batted 0-for-0 again with four walks and scored once. The Buckeyes end their 2012 campaign with a record of 31-23 as they miss the tournament.
Akron Racers Draft Pick # 15, Jen Mineau, #13, Pitcher, Fordham University
Jen Mineau and the Fordham Rams (32-26, 14-6 Atlantic-10) played in the Atlantic 10 Championships this past week as they won their first game and were eliminated in the next two. The Championships were hosted in St. Louis, Mo. The Rams first game was a 4-1 win against St. Joseph’s as Jen Mineau throws a complete game four hitter. Mineau let up one run on four hits while striking out seven and walking four. The second game was against Massachusetts as they lost 2-0. Mineau threw six innings while letting up two runs (one earned) on four hits as she struck out five and walked one. The Rams last game of the season and of the Championships was against George Washington in a long 14 inning loss with a score of 4-1.
Mineau threw all 14 innings letting up four runs on 10 hits, while striking out 20 and walking four. The Rams end their season with a 32-26 record and miss the NCAA tournament. Mineau ends her season with a 25-12 record while striking out 414 batters and had an ERA of 1.62. Jen Mineau was named First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors, while was also named Academic All-Conference. Mineau earns First Team honors for the third time in her career on the heels of a season where she tossed three no hitters, a perfect game, and posted her 100th win and 100th complete game. Over her career, Mineau has set every school pitching record (expect for saves), which includes over 40 shutouts, 1,300 strikeouts, a 1.41 ERA and ten no-hitters.
Akron Racers Draft Pick # 19, Jamia Reid, # 3, Outfielder, University of California, Berkeley
Jamia Reid and the No. 1 California Golden Bears (50-4, 21-3 Pacfic-12) were home to play fellow Racers’ draftee Hillary Bach and the No. 2 Arizona State Sun Devils. The Golden Bears won the series 2-1. In game one, Reid batted 3-for-4 with three singles and scored a run as California won 4-2. In game two, Reid hit 1-for-4 with a single and struck out once as California won 5-0. The last game of the series was a 5-0 loss for the Golden Bears and Reid hit 2-for-4 with two bunt singles. The season for the Golden Bears ended very well as they had a record of 50-4 and were a number one seed for the majority of the season and were Pac-12 champs. The Golden Bears will host the NCAA Regional as the No. 1 seed as they play Iona on Friday.
