Akron Racers General Manager
Joey Arrietta announced today
the signings of Kent State
University utility infielder,
Jessica Toocheck and outfielder,
Kim Hamilton. The pair led the
Flashes to a 46-12 record, and
helped the team defeat Wright
State and Notre Dame in the NCAA
Regional Tournament at the
University of Michigan.
Toocheck was selected to the
Mid-American Conference
Tournament’s All-Tournament Team
after leading Kent to the MAC
championship at Firestone
Stadium, and started in all 217
games during her four-year
career at Kent, including 58
games this season.
Toocheck was named the 2008 MAC
Player of the Year after leading
the Flashes with a .342 batting
average, homeruns (12), hits
(54), triples (4), walks (29),
runs batted-in (48), and on-base
percentage (.448).
In 2007, she batted a
career-best .345 with four
homeruns and 21 runs batted-in.
Toocheck is the Kent State
career leader in total bases
(337) and walks (88).
Hamilton batted .242 in 58 games
this past season. She hit eight
homeruns, 10 doubles, and
knocked in 25 runs, while
leading the team in stolen bases
(18).
In 2007, Hamilton batted a
career-best .305, while stealing
18 bases. She was named to the
MAC First-Team.
For her career, Hamilton had 66
stolen bases, three shy of the
Kent school-record set by Marci
Ridenbaugh in 2004. Kim is the
Kent career leader in runs
scored (40)
The Racers will kick off their
season on the road in Chicago on
June 6 with a four-game series
against the Bandits. The Racers
return home for the season
opener to battle the defending
2007 NPF Champions, the
Washington Glory on June 11 at
Firestone Stadium. The game will
start at 7:05.
