Glory Spoil Racers Home
Debut
Akron, Ohio - The Akron Racers started their home season
on Wednesday night, against the defending champion
Washington Glory, on the short end of the stick. The
Glory (6-3) powered their way past the Racers (1-4) on
the strength of an offensive explosion.
Washington used three solo home runs against Racer
number one draft pick Angela Tincher (0-1) to get an
early lead that Washington starter Desiree Serrano
(2-2)refused to give up.
Washington's offense got started early with a round
tripper by left fielder Catalina Morris. Home runs by
Courtney Bures and Sara Larquier in the the third and
fourth innings respectively to extend the Larquier in
the third and four lead.
Akron's offense showed a spark in their half of the
third and fourth innings, scoring a run in each frame.
The offense got going in the bottom of the third when
India Chiles got things going with a single and stolen
base. Chiles scored on a sacrifice attempt by Norelle
Dickson that was mishandled by the pitcher Serrano.
The Racers got another run back in the bottom of the
fourth on a double by Kellie Middleton that plated
Shannon Doepking.
That would be all the offense the Racers could muster as
Serrano coasted to an easy victory, aided by a three run
fourth inning and a two run sixth that put the Glory up
by the final score of 7-2. Serrano gave up two unearned
runs on three hits and a pair of walks in five innings
of work.
Angela Tincher's day didn't go how she would have
planned it as the rookie gave up five runs on six hits
and three home runs in 3.1 innings of work. Tincher did
strike out seven batters in her ten outs of work.
The Racers will continue their series with the Glory on
Thursday night with the second game of the four game
series. To come out and support the Racers contact the
