AKRON LOSES 4TH STRAIGHT GAME

AKRON, Ohio—Waiting until Saturday to finish Friday’s scheduled contest against the Washington Glory didn’t help the Akron Racers end their losing streak as they dropped their fourth strait 11-0.

Racers starting pitcher Jamee Jaurez cruised through the first two innings, but just as the bad weather moved in on Friday night, the Glory started scoring. They tallied three runs during the top of the third inning as the Glory first baseman Oli Keohohou and infielder Courtney Bures both doubled.

Before Jessica Toochek could even see a pitch while leading off for the Racers during the bottom of the third, the game was called due to weather and scheduled to resume the next day.

On Saturday, Juarez took the mound for the fourth straight day and only lasted one inning after she gave up a home run to Nicole Barber in the fourth and another to Bures to lead off the fifth.

The Races then turned to veteran Radara McHugh to stop the bleeding. The North Carolina product was pulled just one inning later after allowing two of the first three batters to reach base during the top of the sixth.

Rookie Shannon Nicholson took the mound to try her hand at the Glory. She became the victim of some shaky defense and questionable calls as five runs were scored during the sixth inning even though she only gave up one hit.

Akron was unable to wake their bats all night long and the entire lineup was seemingly dominated by Glory pitcher Sarah Pauly who hurled a complete game shutout and gave up just four hits.

The Racers most productive inning was in the bottom of the fifth when Kent State product Jessica Toochek doubled to the left-center wall. No one behind her in the line-up was able to keep the rally going though as Pauly promptly struck the next two players out to retire the side.

The Racers concluded their home opening series against the Glory on Saturday with the second game of the double header.
