Racers Split Doubleheader

Akron, Ohio - After losing the
first game to Denso Japan 1-0, the Akron Racers bounced
back to win the second game of the doubleheader 2-0.
The first game was even through the first three innings
with Racer starter, Brandee McArthur only giving up a
walk in three frames, and Denso's starter, Mika Someya
only allowing a bunt single to Racer Shortsop Kristen
Johnson in her two innings of work.
In the fourth inning Japan's lead-off hitter Yuri
Masumaya lead- off with a double to left field. Two
batters later Kumi Kinugasa drove a single back up the
middle driving in Masumaya. The run would prove to be
all Someya and Japanese reliever Risa Uno would need as
the Racers only managed three hits in the game.
In game two the Racers turned the tables on their
counterparts, as Radar McHugh baffled Denso's bats for
much of the game recording six strike outs and giving up
only four hits in seven innings of work.
As for the offense, when Someya took the mound again for
game two, they jumped on her quickly as Iyhia McMichael
blasted her second home run of the year over the left
field fence with two out in the first.
The Racers would pick up an insurance run after
McMichael lead off the fourth with a single, and
eventually came around to score on an error by shortstop
Naoko Matsumoto of Japan.
The Racers and Japan split the series 2-2, and now the
Racers look towards a two week road trip facing first
the Texas Thunder and then the Philadelphia Force.
