SEASON OF CARING

In 2011, the Akron Racers staff decided to launch a new program through the Akron Racers Charities that would complement their highly successful, "Together Against Breast Cancer" program. The "Together" initiative has raised $46,000 in the past three years for the AGMC Muffins for Mammogram Program which provides mammograms for underinsured men and women in the Akron community. Their breast cancer effort is set to top the $100,000 mark in 2012.

The Season of Caring program designates each Racers home series as a potential partner with an agency or non-profit that services the Akron community. Last year, the local Ronald McDonald House received much needed supplies to continue their mission and three area pregnancy agencies received diapers as a part of the "Huggies" Every Little Bottom Program.

This season, four agencies have been identified with specific dates that correspond to the Racers home series; Alzhemier (June 7-10) , Rape Crisis Center (June 23-24), OPEN M (July 19-22), and Green Neighbors (August 16-19).

Plans are being developed  with each agency to address targeted areas that need public assistance. Whether it is increasing awareness, collecting food or assisting with scheduled events, the Akron Racers Charities through their partnership with the Akron Racers are ready to step up to the plate and help our neighbors!
